Kampung Ketek



Kampung Ketek the almost forgotten…

One of the oldest village recorded since the Dutch era in Melaka is ‘Kampung Ketek’ or Ketek Village. It’s history can be track down on the transcript in the Malay Anal written by famous Malay literary figure in 18th century and now describes as “The Father of Modern Malay Literature” – Abdullah Munsyi. At the past, Kampung Ketek was called Kampung Pali. Now it is surrounded by old shop houses and strategically located at the UNESCO world heritage zone.

Kampung Ketek can be easily found by walking along Jonker Street and Harmony Street. Just opposite the Cheng Hoon Teng Temple you will see a Signage ‘Kampung Ketek’. Follow the signage to a small brick pathway to a hidden historic Malay Village. At Kampung Ketek reside the legendary Abdullah Munsyi house and Syamssudin Al-Sumatrani Tomb. Syamssuddin Al-Sumatrani Tomb dated back in Portuguese period – 16th Century.

Well if you plan to sight seeing the Religious building at Harmony Street – Kampung Kling Mosque, Cheng Hoon Teng Temple and Sri Vinayagar Temple or hunting for hundred years old antique and Jonker Street, drop by at Kampung Ketek certainly will add another interesting topics at your Journey To The World Heritage Site!.

    wah..ni yg rasa mcm nak gi jalan2 lagi kat melaka cuti sekolah ni..
    tapi kg ketek tu, sekali tersilap baca da..

    Munshi Abdullah was not a legend lah..he was a real person who served as Sir Francis Light’s interpreter.
    He is also not the one who wrote Sejarah Melayu or ‘Malay Annals’.
