In Malaysia, there are many spot for turtle landing and lay their eggs. The most favourite are Rantau Abang Terengganu, Turtle Island in Sandakan Sabah and Pulau Redang. Common turtle found in Malaysia are Leatherback Turtle, Green Turtle, Hawksbill Turtle and Olive Ridley. From this 4 main type of turtle, Only the Hawksbill turtle are landing and lay eggs at Melaka Beach.
Melaka have one Turtle Management Centre for the purpose of protecting these endangered species and scientific research. And for that whoever taking the turtle egg or killing the creature will face a serious sentence from the government. The centre is located in Kampung Padang Kamunting at Masjid Tanah Area of Alor Gajah District.
The Turtle We Are Talking About
Hawkbill turtle, as the name Hawk – and – bill, this turtle is the only turtle with beak. Like a bird, and because it is similar to a hawk beak then the name it a Hawkbill turtle. The location of this turtle landing in Melaka are along the coast of North Melaka from Kuala Linggi to Tanjung Bidara including Pulau Upeh (Island). In 2005, an amount of 303 turtle landing and lay eggs has been recorded.
