From 2-9 September there will be Holland Days in Melaka. Holland in Melaka? But Why? East meet west? Actually Melaka about 3 centuries ago played a vital role for the Netherlands as a major trade hub for the Dutch East India Company between 1641 and 1825. To this day, many of the most visible buildings like the Stadthuys town hall and Christ Church are built by the Dutch.

The Event was organized by Melaka Historic City Council, the Melaka Chief Minister’s Department the Museum Corporation of Melaka (PERZIM), the Malaysian Dutch Business Council (MDBC) and the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. This event is in conjuction with our 50 years celebration of Malaysian Independence and 50 years of diplomatic relations between Malaysia and the Netherland.
The activities include:The Dutch Market,Lecture Ar John Koh on the Old Melaka Fort, Cooking lessons from Celine Marbeck,Concert ‘Kleintje Pils’ and many more. There will be 10 of The EU Herd of Cows will be displayed in different locations in Malacca from 1 – 9 September too!. The EU Herd of cows will also visiting other agricultural and public events around Malaysia until November.

The day was very nice..it was a good way to remember history like the Dutch made it. Also a lot of Dutch historian tourists came all the way from Holland to witness this celebration. Hopefully it will be repeated at some time.
