Tun Tan Cheng Lock house…

Tun Tan Cheng Lock street formerly known as Hereen Street are uniquely associated with Peranakan House. The original Peranakan House here has been preserved for generation. Street along Tun Tan Cheng Lock are model of Town System of the past. The Narrow street is a one way street with a row of Town Houses some dated back at Dutch period. Now National University of Singapore and Melaka jointly making effort to conserve 2 unit of town house at the street that is no 54-56. Why the 2 units? This is because no 54-56 are belongs to the late Tun Dato’ Sir Tan Cheng Lock. The street name is dedicated to this man. Once was a Malaysian Chinese businessman and a key public figure who devoted his life to fighting for the rights and the social welfare of the Chinese community in Malaya. Tan was also the founder of the Malayan Chinese Association (MCA), which advocated his cause for the Malaysian Chinese population.
