Melaka Tourism 12 Sub-Sectors

Melaka State Government promoting Melaka tourism base on it’s 12 subsectors. The subsectors are:-

1.) History
2.) Culture
3.) Recreation
4.) Sport
5.) Shopping
6.) convention
7.) Education
9.) Agro
10.) Makan-makan (Eating Out)
11.) Melaka My 2nd Home
12.) Youth

As Melaka have already known for it’s historical landmarks and diverse culture, other sectors like MICE (Convention) with additional 5 star mice facilities like MITC, Holiday Inn, the 6 star Majestic Hotel, Renaissance, Equatorial and more coming at the end of 2010 are growing rapidly. Not to mention Melaka Health tourism that starting to bring big impact to the state with more patient coming for low cost treatment but modern medical facilities.

Melaka Listed!

Melaka and Georgetown were added to UNESCO World Heritage List. Read the rest of the story below from AFP.

AFP – Tuesday,

July 8 QUEBEC CITY (AFP) – - A Hindu temple in Cambodia, two historic Malaysian trading towns and an early agricultural site from Papua New Guinea were added to UNESCO’s World Heritage List on Monday.

Honored were the 11th century Preah Vihear temple site, perched on a mountaintop on the Thai-Cambodia border; the cities of the Straits of Malacca, Melaka and George Town in Malaysia, and the Kuk Early Agricultural Site in Papua New Guinea, marking the country’s first entry on the list.

The UNSECO committee has been meeting in this oldest of Canadian cities since Wednesday to consider adding to its coveted list of protected architectural and natural wonders.

Dutch Middleburg Bastion Near Completion

Middleburg Bastion, a section of once Famous A Famosa Fortress is near completion. Middleburg Bastion located beside Melaka River Bank beside the Tourist Information Center (TIC) at Banda Hilir. Next to it is the new completed Melaka River Watermill. The Bastion founded last year was and excavated by The Heritage Department, under the Culture, Arts and Heritage Ministry. Excavation teams from Malaysia University of Science (USM) also founded human skeletons when doing the excavation works. They estimated the age of the bones between 600 and 1,400 years old.

Melaka Weddings, Somthing New..Somthing Old

From many traditional Malay customs, weddings is the most colorful. Traditional weddings integrate customary practice, traditional music, locals song, dance and costumes… all put together to form a traditional marriage. Melaka is famous for its unique old style weddings that include several ceremonies for one weddings.

Now we go through the process:

In the old days, marriage were often arranged by parents. Womens were well kept in the house with little chance to go out hanging around with boys. When men want a wife in those days, they will ask their parents to seek a bride for them. The first thing parent will do is ‘Spying’ on the target house (girl). There will be an espionage by the mother and a formal visit by both father and mother to the bridegroom in waiting house.
