2nd Aniversary of Melaka UNESCO World Heritage City



7th July have past and Melaka still hold the title with no complaint from UNESCO. 2 Years now. Did you go to the ceremony? Yeah suddenly the Heritage area zone at Jonker Walk, Harmony Street until Jalan kota crowded with folk wearing fez, coat, big belt, riding a Raleigh and use paper umbrella.

They were trying to remember the era around 1824 when Munsyi Abdullah was around. Among VIP are State Governor and Chief Minister. Along this month of July there will be activities everyday to commemorate the the Anniversary.

A Taboo you should think when travel abroad – Not Malaysia



You will not hope this kind of thing happen in the middle of a vacation…

Usually a country where tourism will be their important source of nation GDP, people will appreciate it and welcome all tourist that come to their country with open hand. Here in Melaka, we do various of tourist friendly campaign to educate the community about hospitality. Tourism players like hotelier, taxi driver, beca (trishaw) owner and small businesses are advice to be nice with tourist and don’t overcharged for their service. The newest campaign was the smile campaign. Tourism Malaysia also doing serious effort on promoting Malaysian Hospitality and making foreigners feel Malaysia is the prefect place for a 2nd home.

Little India @ Jalan Bendahara



We can say where ever we go we can find Curry and Noodles because Little India and China Town are almost everywhere in the world. This including Melaka. Jalan bendahara and Jalan Temenggong intersection in Bandar Hilir are famous for it’s Indian origin shophouses. We can call it Melaka Little India. It is little compared to little India in Penang, Singapore or Kuala Lumpur. So it suit the name little India.

When talking about Little India, everyone knows there will be their trademark Saree’s, dhoti and colorful women accessories. Foodstuff? A home made curry powder, Indian snacks like achi marukku and vadai. Yes, Banana Leaf rice is available here.

8TV Summer Life Concert was ok Loor!

As expected, the 8TV Summer Life Concert 2008 last Saturday drew thousand of fans mainly Chinese to MITC. One of my friends said that crowd gathered at MITC parking lot as early as 4pm. Many lovebirds came to enjoy the show with their couples and meeting friends. VIP’s that attended the Concert are Datuk Seet Har Cheow State Executive Council Committee Chairman for Culture, Tourism and Heritage, Melaka MCA Wanita chief, Datuk Kian Sit Har and veteran statesman Datuk Tan Cheng Swee. Aiyaah Datuk.. can you stand all the big bang from the sound system? :-) .

Melaka State Government promoting Melaka tourism base on it’s 12 subsectors. The subsectors are:-

1.) History
2.) Culture
3.) Recreation
4.) Sport
5.) Shopping
6.) convention
7.) Education
9.) Agro
10.) Makan-makan (Eating Out)
11.) Melaka My 2nd Home
12.) Youth

As Melaka have already known for it’s historical landmarks and diverse culture, other sectors like MICE (Convention) with additional 5 star mice facilities like MITC, Holiday Inn, the 6 star Majestic Hotel, Renaissance, Equatorial and more coming at the end of 2010 are growing rapidly. Not to mention Melaka Health tourism that starting to bring big impact to the state with more patient coming for low cost treatment but modern medical facilities.

The Journey to Conserve the history Begins

More than a week the Melaka World Historic City Celebration was already past. The ceremony that took place at Stadhuys complex were attended by more than 15000 people from all around Melaka and foreign tourist. Declaration was made by Melaka Governor The Right Honorary Tun Mohd Khalil Yaakob about 9.15pm. The opening ceremony with ‘Overture’ dondang sayang was great and blend with all main races in Malaysia participating colorfully.
