The roof is from Netherlands


Sample roof at Melaka Butterfly & Reptile Sanctuary..

The Dutch colonialism in Melaka was from 1641 and ended in 1825. After that is the British story. But we always talk about Portuguese here because of the remaining Portuguese settlement .

Other than Stadhuys you see at Banda Hilir, the Dutch also pioneered the roofing system using a ceramics tiles.

600 years ago, traditional roof in this archipelago were made from certain leaves. Even all of the buildings are made from timber. From stairs to the roof, all from the jungle. But when the Europeans came, they introduce solid structure like bricks and stone for buildings.

We got 2 national event this August , starting with the fasting month of Ramdhan and Malaysian Independence on 31st of August. British is the last and Melaka also hold many of the historical past. This Statue at Dataran Pahlawan can tell the Story. The Malaysian Independence was first announced in Melaka.

You can visit Banda Hilir to study about Malaysian Independence at Memorial Kemerdekaan Banda Hilir or Independence Memorial. Built in 1911 was once a Malacca Club Building. In 20 February 1956, Malaysia first Prime Minister Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj declared Malaysian Independence in front of this Building.

Melaka – to be a garden city…



Night also blooming with flowers – Banda Hilir

There is only one season in Malaysia, so in Melaka, the flowers are blooming throughout the year. It is not to hard to make a garden full of flowers here. Not need waiting for the spring season for the flowers to flourish. It is estimated that Malaysia have more than 15000 of flower species . 15000? I just know 10 from the 15000. If you drive along Malaysian road, among famous species that are planted are hibiscus, Ixora, Bougainvillea, Yellow Alamanda, frangipani and Heliconia.
