Malacca once have a port first build by the Portuguese for controling all the main South East Asia trading routes to China after an army lead by Alfonso de Albuquerque defeated Malacca Sultan army in 1511. He not wait for any longer, fear for other European power will invaded this strategic location, Alfonso de Albuquerque with his troop build a fortress that was called A Famosa. In Portuguese it is Called Fortaleza de Malacca. In the early days of the fortress, about 500 soldiers were left as garrison. Demolish by British in 1806, the only visible ruins now are the A Famosa gate. Other new found building are Santiago Bastion (2003) and part of the Middelsburgh Bastion (2006).

Banda Hilir June 17th, Melaka official newspaper MHI reported that an old fort from the Portuguese era in Melaka once being destroyed by British between 1806 and 1807 was founded. The Bastion, Fredrick Hendrick now being excavates, founded on the construction ground at an old Traffic Police Station base. It is believe that the bastion before was a control post build by Portuguese when invaded Melaka in 1511. Before this, 2 more fort has been found near to the A Famosa Fortress and Middleburg Bastion that accidentally found during the Taming Sari Tower development. Middleburg Bastion rebuild work is now near completion.

What inside it? Lets walk in:
Its nothing! Actually A Famosa Fortress is only a Gate and a single gate with no other building attached to it. 500 years ago it was a fortress build by Portuguese conquerer. In the historical days it was a fortress with 4 main gate. Now just one gate remain. Once upon a time, the fortress covered almost all of the Banda hilir area with city, houses, church and office in it.
