I knew that all Malaysian travelers are aware about the Melaka Airport at Batu Berendam. Now, the airport is known as Melaka International Airport and until now, it only have Riau Airlines, flight from Pekanbaru, Indonesia. But, Melaka needs more airline coming and land in Melaka. We have all the facilities and the state government really passionate about this airport.

The airport was officially opened on Oct 1952 by the Duchess of Kent. It is located 10km from Malacca town. After 57 years of operations, it was relocated to a brand new terminal in May 2009. The new terminal can accommodate up to 1.5 million passengers per annum and can handle 300 passengers per peak hour compared to 100 previously. It has two parking bays capable of accommodating Boeing 737-400/Airbus 320 and four parking bays for General Aviation Aircraft. Also configured are four immigration counters to handle departure and six to handle arrival while three baggage carousels have been installed to handle baggage for departure and arrival flights.

The new terminal underlines the State Government and Malaysia Airports’ vision to enhance passengers’ experience and also boost the tourism industry of the Historical City.

A bull and a cart, the bull will pull the cart with 2 wheel. Normally the are 2 bull to pull the cart and that is a bullock cart. Bullock cart is synonym to State of Melaka although other part in Malaysia does have a bull that pulling a cart. This are maybe because bullock cart in Melaka are rich in art and decor and its also use for human transportation. Bullock cart involving human transportation had already introduce to Melaka since 16 century when traders from India using it for multipurpose transportation used.

The cart are quite big and can carry about 10 peoples. Cart made of wood and also the wheel are from wooden materials. In wild wild west it could be like horse wagon. Nowadays bullock cart was long forgotten as a transportation method and now it is just for tourism and to preserved the old identity. You can try the bullock cart riding available at Ayer Keroh, opposite to the Zoo. Ride is from the station to the Botanical garden, 1 kilometer average with a minimal fee around RM3.00.

Melaka new upgraded airport at Batu Berendam, Lapangan Terbang Batu Berendam (LTBB) is expected to be complete in December this year. If this happen the airport can be fully operation for International flight as early in January 2009. Now the existing airport at Batu Berendam only capable to receive only Fokker 50s type aircraft and cannot accept any bigger than that. Now work upgrading the lane is 60% complete and the specification are for Airbus and Boeing 737 to land on it.

Only Fokker for Now.

The State vision are to promote Health Tourism as last year more than 64,164 foreigner came to Melaka for Medical attention and mostly the traffic come from neighboring country Indonesia. They will arrive at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) first than take a ride to Melaka or by Melaka – Dumai ferry. When the LTBB is completely operational, the number are expect to reach 140,000 a year. Melaka also have discuss with Air Asia to make LTBB as one of their destination.

Currently Merpati Nusantara Airlines operates 5 times a week for Melaka-Pekan Baru – Melaka destination, Riau Airlines 6 times a week for Melaka – Riau – Melaka route and Berjaya Air 2 times a week for Subang – Melaka – Padang route.

The ‘Red Line’

Now historic city tour made easy with this Panorama Melaka Double Decker buses. This bus will stop at 23 famous attractions this include historical, shoppings and leisure areas. Red Line:-
A double decker, similar like the old double decker bus in London, that is because it is bought from london.Stop at 13 interesting stops within the heart of Melaka City.

Blue Line:-
A single decker bus, Stops at 23 stops within and outskirts of City Centre.

Service for Panorama Melaka is everyday , 7 days a week. The blue line will start operation at 7.00 am whereas the red will star at 9.00am. Hang Tuah Mall will be its first departure and also the last at 8.30pm. Frequency of waiting are within 30 to 45 minutes.
