Prime Minister at Philea last Saturday…

Prime Minister was here last weekend to open the Philea Resort & Spa and also closing ceremony for Sukan Malaysia. XIII. For the tourism site PM also stating few points about how it gonna be in 10th Malaysia Plan.
In 10th Malaysia Plan the government had approved allocation for a further extension of the ‘Melaka River Cruise”.

PM Said that Malaysia was among only three nations in the world to record an increase in tourist arrivals for last year. I can’t get the exact data but I do got this data for 2010 from Internet:

“Similarly, other Asian countries maintained the upward trend of previous months with Japan (6.8%), Malaysia (38.4%), South Korea (68.1%).”

Eye on Malaysia to spin again

MALACCA: The Eye on Malaysia, which came to a stop early this year due to a legal wrangle, is likely to start spinning again soon.

Chief Minister Datuk Mohd Ali Rustam said this followed successful negotiations with the owners of the 62m-tall observation wheel, Fitraco NV of Belgium.

The Ferris wheel will be managed by the operators of the Malacca Wonderland Theme Park.

The new deal will see the Belgian company being paid RM100,000 for the lease of the wheel.

“We would like to see it spinning as soon as possible,” said Ali after opening the new Malacca Football Association building here yesterday.

In the early days, airlines are started by the nation. Malaysia Airlines System flew proudly in the air promoting Malaysia to the world with the symbol of wau bulan. A traditional Malaysian kite from east coast of Peninsular Malaysia. Then, the air started to be fill with private airlines company.

Now Melaka also want to brand the state in the air. With strong heritage background, the state plan to create Melaka air to make the most of the new air port. Having an airlines and an airport can give an advantage.

Melaka Government Looks To Enter Aviation Industry By Introducing Melaka Air
MELAKA, May 28 (Bernama) — The Melaka government is looking into making inroads in the aviation industry by introducing “Melaka Air” to boost the tourism and aviation sectors in the state.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam said for a start, they would study whether to rent a Boeing 737-400 aircraft or an Airbus 320 to offer flights from Melaka International Airport (LTAM) in Batu Berendam here.

“We will conduct a study on the viability and marketing aspects including public demand over the next three months before the state government makes a final decision on the matter.”

He told this to reporters after flagging off the first flight for Melaka-Medan-Melaka route by community aviation company, Firefly, at the LTAM Friday.

He said among the destinations deemed suitable for the flights from LTAM were Jakarta, Pekan Baru, Palembang and Medan in Indonesia.

The state government’s idea to establish its own aviation company came about after being disappointed by broken promises made by several airlines including AirAsia to use the LTAM for their local flights, he said.

“AirAsia promised to start its flight to Penang and Medan from LTAM this year, but it never happened. So, it is best for us to have our own airline and rent aircraft to boost activities at LTAM,” he said.

At present, he said the RM160-million airport, launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak on Feb 4, was being used only by Riau Airlines, which flies five times a week from Melaka to Pekan Baru using a Fokker 50 aircraft.

Meanwhile, Mohd Ali said the state government was also planning to promote health-tourism especially among the people in Sumatera, Indonesia.

“Sumatera has a vast health-tourism market to be explored seriously by the state government. About 50,000 Indonesian tourists came to Melaka last year for health purposes,” he said.

I knew that all Malaysian travelers are aware about the Melaka Airport at Batu Berendam. Now, the airport is known as Melaka International Airport and until now, it only have Riau Airlines, flight from Pekanbaru, Indonesia. But, Melaka needs more airline coming and land in Melaka. We have all the facilities and the state government really passionate about this airport.

The airport was officially opened on Oct 1952 by the Duchess of Kent. It is located 10km from Malacca town. After 57 years of operations, it was relocated to a brand new terminal in May 2009. The new terminal can accommodate up to 1.5 million passengers per annum and can handle 300 passengers per peak hour compared to 100 previously. It has two parking bays capable of accommodating Boeing 737-400/Airbus 320 and four parking bays for General Aviation Aircraft. Also configured are four immigration counters to handle departure and six to handle arrival while three baggage carousels have been installed to handle baggage for departure and arrival flights.

The new terminal underlines the State Government and Malaysia Airports’ vision to enhance passengers’ experience and also boost the tourism industry of the Historical City.
