The result will be ‘Singapore Flyers’ is the tallest, but we still doing some marketing at Singapore to attract them to sit in the Eye on Malaysia @ Melaka and experience it. It is not just about tallest or lowest, but to be at that place. No matter how tall the wheel is, people want to see the view, bird eye view. From Singapore Flyers you can see Straits of Tebrau Johor, the metropolitan city and small island scattered at the approx. 40km distance. Where as riding on Eye on Malaysia, you can see the heritage city, the winding Melaka River, the busy strait of Melaka and are the atmosphere is clear enough we can see Neighboring Indonesia Island.

The ceremony was officiate by Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam and from guest is Zainul Abideen Rasheed, Senior Minister of Singapore Foreign Affairs. The propose of the visit is to tighten up the bilateral relationship that have long been established between the Melaka State and Singapore. Singapore people also had been no. 1 tourist that came to Melaka since 2000 till August 2008.
Agro tourism is part of Melaka 12 tourism sub-sector. Although Melaka economy is not based on agriculture, Melaka still have plenty of agricultural land and many individual fruits orchard all over the state. As most part of Melaka are form by Malay village, we can find many varieties of tropical fruis here like mangosteen, durians, jack fruits, sapodilla, rambutans and other exotic fruits like pulasan, custard apple and santol. All the fruits are at home grown orchard and plant by the locals not for commercial use but for family consume. This Malay fruits orchard usually will be tourist attraction when visiting the Melaka homestay.

For the commercials, Melaka has setup a biotechnology department to boost the Melaka biotechnology industry. The main aim are to research new agricultural technology and producing value added to the industry as Melaka have very small land to utilized. One of the Melaka biotech products are Dragon Fruits Concentrate.
Dragon fuits is not native to Melaka or even Malaysia but the fruits starting to be famous crop as it has a good export value.

Diabetics patient use it as a substitution for rice and also a source of dietary fiber. Dragon Fruits concentrate when make into a juice is reddish in color with tiny seed mix all over it. Because the seeds are so tiny, people just eat it with the flesh same goes to the juice. We can find the concentrate in most Melaka retail shop or State own agencies like Syarikat Pemasaran Melaka Berhad. Call Syarikat Pemasaran Melaka Berhad (06-231-7630) or direct to Melaka Biotech for more info.

Pulau Undan or Undan Island is one of the few Island in Melaka apart the famous Pulau Besar (Great Islands). No people live here except for the Lighthouse operator and the Radar Tower at the Island. The lighthouse at Pulau Undan was completed in 1880 during British rule in Malacca as a beacon to all the ships that past along Malacca coast. Now the Lighthouse is still in operation but with added second newer concrete tower (Radar tower) for shipping communications.

Undan Islands located about 15miles of the coast of Malacca and as the Island is very small, it is solely reachable by boat. Public are prohibited to enter both of the tower and its site. Camping and Fishing can be done here with permission from the authorities. Boats can be rent either from Umbai Jetty or Klebang Beach.

Undan Islands may be small but it still have interesting nature surroundings like white sandbank, corals and variety of fish like garoupa and parrotfish.

Melaka coast are favorite for Hawkbill Turtle or Penyu Karah. Read my previous post about Melaka Turtle Management Center Here. Last week I was at the center and luckily it’s time for turtle egg starting to hatch. It was fun when you can experience the baby turtle live at your palm. Thinking of the big adult turtle shell, this little one is so cute, small and fragile. I wonder how they can survive and eat at the open sea with just the size of your key chain. It even will not biting you. From what I can see, baby turtle is not cunning like other human pet. For example the kitten. A newborn kitten will find their mother for food and sometime a kitten will follow you thinking that you are the mommy and they want to play. Baby turtle is different, when i hold it, no much response, they are just eager to walk. Walk and walk to the water. No play-play like a kitten or a puppy. Guys if you have time no need to go to Terengganu or deserted island just to watch the baby turtle, come experience it at Kampung Padang Kamunting Melaka.

International Bee Museum… Maybe the correct word for it is farm as Museum are more to historic or pre-historic activities. But the owner prefer the word museum and its ok. Taman Lebah Sedunia or International Bee Museum founded by Mr. Ong Kang Peng, a Apiculture Specialist. He started the bee business back in 1978. More than two decades playing with the stinging insect. I think all the bees in his farm have already assume him as part of the ‘bee’ family. That is why he never got sting in past few years.

Honey Showcase

Located at Air Keroh Highway, just about 3kilometer from the PLUS Highway Ayer Keroh exit. After the toll just drive slowly below 80km per hour mark (this lane have many traffic monitor, I’ve already get caught twice ). Find the Taman Mini Malaysia and Mini Asean, the bee farm is just next to it.

A Bee Home

No entrance fee to the farm, plus you will get a welcome drink, what do you think? Yes you must drink the honey….honey. Its like an educational tour, enter and you will learn how the bees evolve from larva to mother bees and producing honey for us human to consume. They have put a real wild bee hives for your pleasure viewing. Interesting because there are many shape and sizes naturally depending on the bee species. The honey they sell at the farm of course not from the hives, its out from the box. Yeah.. modern bees today live in apartment..cozy and colorful with stickers too.

Mr. Bee

Other than that you can witness a candid showcase of honeycomb making not by Mr. Ong Kang Peng but the bees itself. Okay I forgot, why is this farm called itself international? That is because the Museum kept hundred bottled of honey from different continent in a glass cabinet. But you can’t tell many differences because the color are almost the same, accept maybe the bees have certain shape and sizes.

World Honey

Ever heard of Monte Cristo Island? Yeah go to the Music Valley and buy Count of Monte Cristo Movie. In the movie the islands was remarks as a mysterious island known only to pirates. Many sunken treasure like gold coins burried there. Monte Cristo, a tiny Italian Islands with mysteries is filled with saints, monks and pirates.

In Melaka we have a similar Mysterious islands. Maybe far more mysterious in terms of mystic and legends. That is Pulau Besar or The Great Island. Pulau is Island and Besar is Great, so it will be Great Island in English. Pulau Besar located about 3 kilometer from the main Jetty, Anjung Batu. There are no permanent resident at the islands, just daily tourist and workers from the one and only resort there the Chandek Kura. Journey by boat from Anjung Batu Jetty will take approximately 20minutes.

Pulau Besar Island

The Islands were recorded to have at least 23 legendary / mystery / mystic or holy spot. Some of the mystic spot are:

Sultanul Aarifeen Tomb,
-Sultanul Aarifeen believed to be a pious man came from Baghdad in early days Islam came to the Malay Archipelago.

Well at the island Feet
-A well use by the Japanese soldier duiring WW2 to behead the prisoners.

Skull Rock
-A rock similar like a shape of human skull, believed there is a treasure in the rock but none of the try to blow off the rock are successful.

Salt and Tasteless Shrine
-Some sort of small pond near to the beach. When the water is low (sea) water from the shrine will not be salty.

Genie Village
-Locals said there are about 146 genie village here. Of course you cannot see it with the naked eye.

A Ripping Stone
-Huge stone at the center of the islands, the stone is rip at the center, believed done buy a Warrior Name ‘The Black Tonge’ who rip the stone by his tongue.

-Snake Shrine
-A shrine made by a Priest that can turn into a big snake, person who is lucky will get a bag full of coal from the shrine and will turn to an unknown treasure but must open the bag when you off the islands and at home.

-Yunos Cave
Cave for person want to meditate and could get great ability or power. One must dive to enter the cave because its opening is beneath the water level.

-Madam Mussallimah the Witch Well
Musallimah was an old witch that can cured many disease.Old folk said the water from the well is very good for luck charm and health.

Jetty to the Island

In a fisherman boat to the Island

Many others old shrines, well, tomb, old trees and pond that have their own legends and mysteries as told by the locals. A trip to the main jetty from Melaka Sentral took only 20minute. From Anjung Batu take a boat cost about RM12 for one trip. You can camp or just take the chalet. Not many modern facilities here, make sure to bring all your equipments if you plan to stay 2 or 3 days. Usually you can find people going to fishing, student doing motivational course or some tomb worshiper going to the Islands.

One of the many tomb there..

One of the good luck shrine

Between Monte Cristo Island and Pulau Besar Island, the similarity maybe in terms of the mystic stories by the local folks. But for environmental and ecosystem care, Monte Cristo Islands got the best management from the Italian Government. Now only 1000 visitors are allow to access the Islands a year but with a stringent procedure from the Italian government.

State of Melaka which cover about 1,650 kilo meter of land dont have much of natural resources. For that Melaka economic growth are catalyzed from the service industry.

There are few spot of nature business here and one of them is Bukit Batu Lebah or Be Hives Hill. It is a small Forest reserved of Bukit Senggeh and Bukit Senggeh is a fraction from Range of Mount Titiwangsa. Located in Jasin District,16 kilometer from the main city and situated in a small town call Selandar. Well dont think about any dangerous wild animal or endangered species here, since the place is very near to a village.

Bukit Batu Lebah is about 500 to 600 meter from the sea level, famous for its wide range of big rocks formation. People called it Bee Hives Hill because once there are many bee hives along the caves and rocks. You can find rock similar to a snake head, ship and many small caves (actually a hole or oppening). Animal? Okay here you can find wild boar and monkey species like gibbons and loris. A nice place for daily activities like jungle trekking, orienteering or training camp, as the forest is not very thick and have a good track signage. Suitable as a starting ground before climbing high Mountain. Tourism Ministry allocated 7.7mil to upgrade thie facilities here including the Sungai Udang recreational forest and Linggi coastal mangrove forest.

Here is some info about my trip to Bukit Batu Lebah not long ago with tourism agencies and the district office.
