This construction was found when the government were building a road at the Stadhuys Hill (circular road from to go up and down the hill) in September 1982.

The hole contains sluice valve for reservoir that was located nearby. The water reservoir was built at the end of 19th century and became the first reservoir for the state of Melaka. It was closed in 1920s.

Existing road has closed the main reservoir.

Soon it will be accompanied by another replica from 15th century – the ‘King Ship’ (Kapal Raja Melaka). Just few meters away from Flor De La Mar and at the riverside. Now this area is called ‘Dataran Sungai Melaka’. It said that the ship architecture would be like in Mansur Shah Sultanate era that rule Melaka 600 years ago.

Chief Minister of Melaka said that it will take about 18 month before the project is completed. The ship height is 46meter with 3 deck and 120 x 26 sq meter wide. When completed, it can accommodate about 150 people in one time. Not just a replica, it also will house Center of Malaysian Woods Promotion – collection of woods that can be found in Malaysian Jungle. There will also an in ship cafeteria.

Like Flor De La Mar, it will not set sail, just lying in front of the upcoming Casa Del Rio and waiting to served about estimated 360,000 tourist a year. State government hope to strengthen local Maritime Architecture with this built. Just wait for this latest attraction at Melaka!

Sleep over at the museum is not new in the tourism industry. Many country that have historical building have created a package for visitors to spend night at the museum. This is like an educational activities and people especially student / kids can lean more about history. The important part is this kind of activities will create psychological effect like the museum is haunted or dream about pirates. Sleeping with friends in a place like 200 years old building sure will make the environment more happenings and the sleep will go to number 10 or you might not sleep at all . One example of famous museum with a sleepover package is the American Museum of Natural History. They have night activities just with flash light going through the museum that are full with preserved wild animal and dinosaurs.

Here in Malaysia, the indigenous people are called ‘Orang Asli’. Orang is ‘men’ and asli is ‘indigenous’. Government introduce the word ‘Orang Asli’ in the 1950s referring to small cluster of people live deep in the Malaysian rain forest. The aspect of magic and ritual are famous in their culture making this ‘Orang Asli’ called a primitive.

In reality we may say they are poor and lag from current technology. But if we look in different point of view, these indigenous people also develop their own standard of living and technology to suit in the environment they live in. They have their own culture and arts skill that are related with the nature. Who says they have no technology? The can live in the wild with tools they created themselves. No TV’s and entertainment, it is bias to define entertainment just to focus on movies or going the rock concert. What ever that can entertain us we can call it some sort of entertainment too.

So this people also have their own entertainment and it’s unique. They have their own musical instruments and dance. They make mask and clothing made from plant to do their ceremony. In Indonesia for example, the Have many Malay ethnic like Javanese, Minang, Batak and many others. But here in Malaysia, the ethnic customs are seldom practice and all of the Malays here agreed to call them just Malays. Therefore we can find the customs are mixed with many other Malay ethnic in this Archipelago like marriage customs, accessories and dressing. But now all the customs are not everyday practice and some of them have been replace by modern & contemporary fashion such as marriage dress. It’s hard to find the authentic traditional accessories now as the younger generations never use them anymore. So best things to find them is at the Museum.

International Bee Museum… Maybe the correct word for it is farm as Museum are more to historic or pre-historic activities. But the owner prefer the word museum and its ok. Taman Lebah Sedunia or International Bee Museum founded by Mr. Ong Kang Peng, a Apiculture Specialist. He started the bee business back in 1978. More than two decades playing with the stinging insect. I think all the bees in his farm have already assume him as part of the ‘bee’ family. That is why he never got sting in past few years.

Honey Showcase

Located at Air Keroh Highway, just about 3kilometer from the PLUS Highway Ayer Keroh exit. After the toll just drive slowly below 80km per hour mark (this lane have many traffic monitor, I’ve already get caught twice ). Find the Taman Mini Malaysia and Mini Asean, the bee farm is just next to it.

A Bee Home

No entrance fee to the farm, plus you will get a welcome drink, what do you think? Yes you must drink the honey….honey. Its like an educational tour, enter and you will learn how the bees evolve from larva to mother bees and producing honey for us human to consume. They have put a real wild bee hives for your pleasure viewing. Interesting because there are many shape and sizes naturally depending on the bee species. The honey they sell at the farm of course not from the hives, its out from the box. Yeah.. modern bees today live in apartment..cozy and colorful with stickers too.

Mr. Bee

Other than that you can witness a candid showcase of honeycomb making not by Mr. Ong Kang Peng but the bees itself. Okay I forgot, why is this farm called itself international? That is because the Museum kept hundred bottled of honey from different continent in a glass cabinet. But you can’t tell many differences because the color are almost the same, accept maybe the bees have certain shape and sizes.

World Honey
