Have a 3G on your phone? Now you can download Melaka guided tour directly on your phone. It’s like an informative map. Point and click at the attraction and it will show you the tourism product information.

How to get i-Tour Melaka?

Currently you can have it at Tourism Information Center. RM10. You will get a card, scratch the card for code, point your wap browser to www.sisna.com.my/itourmelaka and use the code to avtivate the i-tour Funtion. very card has a unique embedded number and can only be used once. You will need to have WAP enabled mobile phone before downloading i-Tour Melaka. Please consult your service provider for more information regarding WAP access.

What do you expect from Hotel Star Rating?

Among first thing we will ask when choosing the hotel is the Star Rating. Usually from 3 Star to 5 star hotel. Normal people don’t really know what are the hotel Stars about. We just assume the Star rating base on the facts like Hotel Name for Example here everybody knows that Equatorial Hotel is 5 Star and Mahkota Hotel is 3 Star. Other criteria we assume are the price and the hotel looks. The price maybe can relate with the Star rating but somehow not the hotel looks.

For example, I once think that a beautiful hotel with Gothic and classic outer design easily a 5 star, but when find out about it, it is a 3 star hotel. Actually the hotel star ratings are more technical. The guidelines have been set up by the Tourism Ministry to ensure the hotels rate base on its own class. This rating system also can guide customer when choosing a hotel and also can protect the guest rights. So if the guest have paid the amount of a 4 star hotel in its mind but some how don’t get the 4 star facilities in his room for example a dustbin. We can complaint to the hotel management.

Actually there are a complete guideline for hotels to match their star rating criteria at minimum requirements. You can download all the guideline here at Malaysia Association of Hotels website.

I take some example from the ratings requirements.

Corridors :

For 1 to Star Hotels, there are not requirements for the corridors.

But for 3 Star Hotels the corridors must:
-Corridors or other space outside guests room should be covered with noise absorbing material and material used should be of “fire-proof” / have a fire retardant treatment.

For 5 Star Hotels corridors:
All corridors or other space outside guests room should be covered with carpets or other noise absorbing material and material used should be of “fire-proof” / have a fire retardant treatment.

The Bedroom Requirements
Minimum requirements for 2 Star hotels bedroom size are:
Single – 8 sq m in Size and 2.5 m in height.
Double – 10 sq m in size and 2.5 m in height.

But for 4 Star Hotels the minimum requirements for your bedroom are:
Single – 12 sq m in Size and 2.5 m in height.
Double – 14 sq m in Size and 2.5 m in height.

I’m probably not really aware about the bedside when check in at Hotel room because there all look like the same size. You can read it all at MAH website…

Melaka: Going to be the best cultural heritage sites in the world!!!

Hi all….as we know, last 7th of July 2008, Melaka was finally got the UNESCO heritage list as a world heritage city, together with the Georgetown, Penang. As the Melakan people, I can’t stop to be so proud and hopefully Melaka will become the most amazing tourist destination in the world. These two states have become the Malaysia’s first cultural heritage sites. The Melaka government with their full commitment has do a lot to achieve this and the effort are still going strong.

Preserving all the over 500 years of treasure are not only for the sake of tourism but for the people of future – Our Child. From this initiative, we hope for 500 years again people can still walk at the same pedestrian walk way in Jonker Street as it is now. Protect our unique heritage while we can.

Just read the KLIA times make me spirited away about heritage. Below is the excerpt :-

“The Malacca Heritage Trusts President Debbie Lee said the inscription marked the beginning of a new phase in conservation and preservation work. The authorities must now ensure that the city’s intrinsic cultural heritage and monuments are protected and preserved through implementation and enforcement of proper policies and guidelines”.

Melaka have about 37 active Travel Agent to date. The numbers by race are Malay 19 company, Chinese 15, India 2 and Others 1.
Many of them doing the outbound package rather than inbound. Travel agent in Melaka are encourage to be creative in creating new and fresh package for promoting Melaka outside. By JV with hotel, resort and tourism product owner with useful information they can come out with attractive travel package. Of course lack of eco-tourism product in Melaka are factors that make many Travel Agent to do outbound package to interesting places like an Island that is more profitable.

Anyway here are the list of active travel agent in Melaka for your reference. Appreciate if got any comment or updated data.

Education is under Melaka Tourism Sub-Sector. Melaka State Government have a long term plan to ensure that it can provide world class education facilities, so that many International student will choose Melaka to study. Now Melaka have few universities and hundred of private college. Some have been recognized internationally Like Multimedia University.

Currently I’m compiling the directory of university and college all over Melaka. Although it is not fully completed, you can download it here for free. Comment appreciated.
