Malaysia Major Events in 2013

Malaysia expect to be a major events hub in the region. MICE (Meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions / events) prove to be lucrative in term of business and tourism. International events that successfully host in Malaysia automatically can promote Malaysia and drive business related to tourism like accommodation, exhibition center rental and transportation.

Malaysia Major Events that are happening this month are Viper Challenge (17th-18th Aug) followed by the local music euphoria of Good Vibes Festival (17th), international music act by Linkin Park (19th), Metallica (21st) and George Benson (28th).


MME Expects RM82.5 Million From Hosting Major Events
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 16 (Bernama) — Malaysia Major Events (MME) expects to rake RM82.5 million from the hosting of major events this month and hopes to further strengthen the nation as a major events hub in the region. Read on the news here.

Apart from the huha haha events, Prime Minister also concern about specific market – the business event. So for now PM set the target to be Asia’s business event hub. Although the percentage of business tourist arrival is small, they can spark a bigger effect like bringing direct investment. So maintaining political stability, racial harmony and security is a must to make Malaysia a major events hub.

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia has targeted for business tourism to grow from 5% of total tourist arrivals in 2010 to 8% by year 2020.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said several programmes had been put in place to attract incentive and business groups to Malaysia as part of a bigger economic agenda in becoming Asia’s Business Events Hub.

He said business events had also been included in the progressive Economic Transformation Programme (ETP), which was to grow the business tourism arrivals to 8% of total tourist arrivals.

Najib said this was an increase from 1.2 million arrivals to 2.9 million by year 2020. Read more here.
