Place in Malaysia by food

In many places around the world, it is common to connect or associated food with specific places like village, county or state. When the local menu is so attached to it’s birth place or place of origin, people will talk about the menu plus the place of origin even though it is cooked elsewhere. International Example can be the famous Kentucky Fried Chicken. You can read about the fried chicken is from place named Kentucky in USA.

KFC in China: Secret Recipe for Success

For Melaka, there are various food named after the state such as Gula Melaka, Kuih Buah Melaka and Asam Pedas Melaka. For Johor, we have laksa Johor and Mee Bandung Muar. Muar is a district in Johor. For Penang we have Penang Char Kue Teow and Laksa also.

So within Malaysia we can find many Mee Bandung Muar or Asam Pedas Melaka Restaurant. Luckily the named with specific place like that are not registered trademarks. If not they have to renamed the menu.

Foods are among the best medium to promote a country. International Menu like Tom Yum and Sushi already known across the globe without adding the country name after the food. We know Sushi is Japanese. Hope that through Malaysia Kitchen program by Ministry of Tourism, Malaysian recipe like Nasi Lemak can make the International appearances.

  1. Quote: “Foods are among the best medium to promote a country.”

Yes, I could not agree more with your assertion.

In Malaysia we have Penang declaring itself as the pinnacle of gastronomic Malaysian tourism. The uncrowned food capital of Malaysia & as this mantra got repeated it soon became a self professing prophecy in the subconscious of people.

Selangor have been promoting themselves as a foodie destination through initiatives such as ‘Selangorlicious’.

Melaka tourism has achieved so much in the past 10 years it has been fantastic to see the tourist numbers rise year on year due to the hard work of the tourist board & all industry players.

Melaka, (as with any significant tourist destination) cannot stand still so there is always the search for the next big idea to help promote tourism & stimulate the local economy. So why not promote Melaka as a food destination to give tourists an even more compelling reason to visit?

Melaka, as you rightly say, has a fantastic culinary heritage with many cultural influences combining to give an eclectic range of gastronomic greatness every Melakan should be proud of.

Melaka has fantastic cuisine so why not shout it from the rooftops & make yourself heard to everybody?
