Prime Minister at Philea last Saturday…

Prime Minister was here last weekend to open the Philea Resort & Spa and also closing ceremony for Sukan Malaysia. XIII. For the tourism site PM also stating few points about how it gonna be in 10th Malaysia Plan.
In 10th Malaysia Plan the government had approved allocation for a further extension of the ‘Melaka River Cruise”.

PM Said that Malaysia was among only three nations in the world to record an increase in tourist arrivals for last year. I can’t get the exact data but I do got this data for 2010 from Internet:

“Similarly, other Asian countries maintained the upward trend of previous months with Japan (6.8%), Malaysia (38.4%), South Korea (68.1%).”

Prime Minister also said that :

The government planned to attract ‘quality tourists’ who would stay eight nights and spend between RM4,000 and RM5,000 on the average per trip.

Currently, the tourists generally stayed an average of 6.7 nights and spent RM2,300 per trip.

Now everyone seem to already think about niche. Niche..niche..niche. Luckily Melaka already had a niche given by the history. But the niche must be preserved accordingly. Visitors come to Melaka usually to experience the 600 years of the past. From the Melaka Sultanate that rule the entire archipelago to the Portuguese Invasion, Dutch and British.

This few years, Melaka want to tap into another aspect of tourism that is theme park for family. Starting from A Famosa Waterworld, the River Cruise, rotating Gyro tower and now the Wonderland theme park

Tourism products owners also must think about niche to make advantage of the good Malaysia tourism atmosphere. Some hotel in Melaka like Philea Resort already exploring new niche in hotel development – using log.
