Melaka General Hospital – most up to date in medical facilities

Yes, Melaka General Hospital got the most up to date Medical Facilities in the country at 1934. Now all the Government Hospital have been equipped with standard and modern facilities under the Ministry of Health. Why talk about hospital suddenly? Because while I’m walking at the Melaka General Hospital, I saw one abandoned building, like horror movies and it has a sign. The Sign said, “This Monument Has Been Gazetted Under The Preservation and Conservation of Cultural Heritage Enactment 1988 [enactment No. 6 1988].

Ah haa its historical. Just shoot the building photo through the steel gate, using hand phone. So you can’t see the wording clearly. The wording at the building door is something like this ‘Sila Ketuk Pintu, Pembedahan Sedang Dilakukan’. In English ‘Please Knocked the Door, Surgery is being Perform’. So it’s an operating theater / surgery room.

Actually Melaka General hospital is also such an historical landmark that still actively functioning until today. Melaka General Hospital was opened in 1934. It was officiated by Sir Cecil Clementi (Governor and Commander-in-Chief of the Straits Settlements) on 12 February 1934. The grand opening was also attended by the Colonial Secretary Mr.A.Caldecott, Commander Officer Major General Lewin, Director of Medical Treatment and Health Dr R.D. Fitzgerald, Resident Counselor Mr M.W. Millington and many other celebrities including 700 other people of Melaka.

In the opening speech by Dr R.D. Fitzgerald, it was said that Melaka Hospital was then the most up to date in medical facilities in the Malay states as follows;
“ ..this beautiful building on this hill for centuries will be a vision of excellency in the medical field not only in Melaka but also in Tanah Melayu. I hope that the people of Melaka will be satisfied considering what they have now is the first step to other benefits in future medical services. – Source from wikipedia.

When Japanese occupation (1942-1945), The Melaka General Hospital has been turn into Japanese Army Hospital, Civil Hospital and Medical College named “IKA DAGAIKU”.

  1. Please make sure that the cleaning contractors are doing their jobs, the toilets are filthy and the cabinets by the beds are infested with ants and cocoraches. I will write to the ministry and TV3 to look into this immediately. Make necessary arrangements to get the situation corrected Immediately.

Your aim is not only to serve for national citizens but other country’s who want to seek for a good care treatment

  4. Saya ingin menujukan pandangan saya tentang Hospital Besar Melaka….

    terima kasih….

  5. apa2 saya mengucapkan berbanyak2 jutaan terima kasih, kepada semua staf ghm.diatas keperihatian didalam merawat anak saya yang dimasukan keghm awal feb 2012.semuga jasa baik staf ghm allah jua yang akan membalas.sekian terima kasih
