When you open the find a world heritage site for example, then I choose Petra at Jordan and click for more info, it will display comprehensive information about Petra.

At expedia, the main objective is not to detail out about all world heritage site history but more about the Sustainable Tourism by promoting world heritage site travel packages.

You can see a little bit info about Petra at Jordan like this:

Inhabited since prehistoric times, this Nabataean caravan-city, situated between the Red Sea and the Dead Sea, was an important crossroads between Arabia, Egypt and Syria-Phoenicia. Petra is half-built, half-carved into the rock, and is surrounded by mountains riddled with passages and gorges. It is one of the world’s most famous archaeological sites, where ancient Eastern traditions blend with Hellenistic architecture.

Other than that you can create a travel package for Pertra. For example the the flight, hotel, packages and you can explore nearby places at Petra Jordan by using the Map powered by Microsoft virtual earth.

You can find others World Heritage Site by using the search function and you can specific it by regions like Asia,Pacific,Arab States,Caribbean Europe and America. I found 35 historical site in the pacific region and one of them is Mulu National Park Malaysia.Mulu National Park has the largest known cave chamber in the world.

But I still can’t see Melaka & Penang in the expedia map. Maybe still fresh from the oven. Guys don’t forget to be a World Heritage Friends!..
