Pulau Undan or Undan Island is one of the few Island in Melaka apart the famous Pulau Besar (Great Islands). No people live here except for the Lighthouse operator and the Radar Tower at the Island. The lighthouse at Pulau Undan was completed in 1880 during British rule in Malacca as a beacon to all the ships that past along Malacca coast. Now the Lighthouse is still in operation but with added second newer concrete tower (Radar tower) for shipping communications.
Undan Islands located about 15miles of the coast of Malacca and as the Island is very small, it is solely reachable by boat. Public are prohibited to enter both of the tower and its site. Camping and Fishing can be done here with permission from the authorities. Boats can be rent either from Umbai Jetty or Klebang Beach.
Undan Islands may be small but it still have interesting nature surroundings like white sandbank, corals and variety of fish like garoupa and parrotfish.

It is rather interesting to note that camping is allowed at Pulau Undan. Do they have fresh water and toilet facilities available there? What about security of the campers?
As the island is quite a distance from Melaka itself what about the potential dangers ofraiding pirates from a neighbouring country ?
Another interesting point in that write-up is the lighthouse facility on the island. Many years ago the lighthouse atop St. Paul’s Hill used to to be a beacon for passing ships along the Malacca Straits. I think it will be a good tourist attraction to put it back in function. I used to like to look up to the light from Coronation Park when I was little (That was many, many moons ago!).
I think the freshwater and toilet facilities are within the Lighthouse and the staff barrack owned by the Martime dept. This differ from Pulau Besar and Pulau Upeh dan have proper toilet / water facilities and occasionally have groceries shop too. As for the security, never heard about pirates making problem at the campers at the Island but in the coastal area there is a smugglers from Indonesia sometimes. I think the pirates will think twice as the Marine Dept staff are at the Island.
Yes doc centuries ago St. Pail hill used as a beacon because Melaka was an important port for the Dutch and British for a while. But I dont know it’s still existed in 60′ (when you was young). With Melaka town not a main port anymore maybe lighthouse at the St. Paul hill will not function but as a tourist attraction is a good idea doc. Imagine at night in Banda Hilir the tourist attraction spot and the lighthouse at St. Paul Hill is functioning!
