Melaka Weddings, Somthing New..Somthing Old

From many traditional Malay customs, weddings is the most colorful. Traditional weddings integrate customary practice, traditional music, locals song, dance and costumes… all put together to form a traditional marriage. Melaka is famous for its unique old style weddings that include several ceremonies for one weddings.

Now we go through the process:

In the old days, marriage were often arranged by parents. Womens were well kept in the house with little chance to go out hanging around with boys. When men want a wife in those days, they will ask their parents to seek a bride for them. The first thing parent will do is ‘Spying’ on the target house (girl). There will be an espionage by the mother and a formal visit by both father and mother to the bridegroom in waiting house.

The Volvo XC90 Experience at Melaka

When I arrived at Mahkota Parade Melaka to grab some dinner I saw few Volvos at the main entrance, kinda blocking customer from entering the shopping mall. I thought it was a non discipline customer who like to park everywhere as they please… but hey it’s a Volvo promotion. To look it like a tough car, I can see the company getting help from Explorer, a Melaka based outdoor and recreation company that famous with organizing Melaka International Regatta. Explorer also have a restaurant too, the Seafarer. It seem Volvo is trying their best to promote the Volvo XC90. More info about the Official Volvo XC90 experience here. Me? Volvo is not my type of car. It’s big and seem suits with a veteran.

The Fiesta As Usual

As usual Festa San Juang is celebrated every each year on 23rd June. Every house at the Portuguese Settlement will lighten up by candles, children dress in green overall pajamas said to symbolizing their innocence. Lot of dance, stalls and food unique to the Small Portuguese Community that tries to preserved their culture and Identity. This year festa supported by Ministry of Tourism Malaysia and State Government.

Melaka Governor Cup 2008 19th to 20th July

On 19th to 20th July, Melaka Bicycle Association, National Bicycle Association and Melaka Sport Councill will jointly organize Melaka Governor Cup 2008. The race wil start at Bukit Serindit Minucipal Park. Melaka Today reported that over 100 participants are expected in this International Race for the second time held in Melaka. Few foreign teams have confirmed their participations are : Thailand, Brunei,Indonesia,Qatar,Doha,Iran,Uzbekistan as well as Malaysia Royal Customs, Le Tua and MCF cycling teams.

Stage one will be held on Saturday 19th where the racers will clock a total 167.7 kilometer around Melaka City as well as making inroad into outskirts of Melaka Town like Sungai Udang, Masjid Tanah and Jasin. The second stage will involve 140.3 kilometer where individual will be racing clock wise using 1st stage route. A total of RM22,000 for winners from positions 1 to 20 of Governor Cup 2008 Melaka and each first 3 winners will get medal. This event is still open for sponsorship. For corporate bodies, hotels or companies that want to get involve with this race can call Mr. Norazman Abu Samah (016-6038323).

Florathon 2008

The subject tells you what it is, it’s a sport as it is. A ‘Thon’… you may have heard about mara’thon’ and walka’thon’.This event is in the ‘thon’ group except this one is blooming with flowers. A – 3km walk on sunny day at Taman Botanikal (Melaka Botanical Garden) Ayer Keroh. The dress code is full of floral and fruity themes…and you are eligible to join. Say it like this – ‘imagine streets full of giant bobbing flowers and delicious fruits with arms and legs making their way towards the finishing line and participants will be judged not by speed but their floral costumes!’. Sound great for all Couch potato out there, no need body work out to win and you can still eat plenty of McD yet still has a chance to win this race.

Melaka New Airport will be completed Dec 2008

Melaka new upgraded airport at Batu Berendam, Lapangan Terbang Batu Berendam (LTBB) is expected to be complete in December this year. If this happen the airport can be fully operation for International flight as early in January 2009. Now the existing airport at Batu Berendam only capable to receive only Fokker 50s type aircraft and cannot accept any bigger than that. Now work upgrading the lane is 60% complete and the specification are for Airbus and Boeing 737 to land on it.
