What inside it? Lets walk in:
Its nothing! Actually A Famosa Fortress is only a Gate and a single gate with no other building attached to it. 500 years ago it was a fortress build by Portuguese conquerer. In the historical days it was a fortress with 4 main gate. Now just one gate remain. Once upon a time, the fortress covered almost all of the Banda hilir area with city, houses, church and office in it.
Now we can see only walls made of bricks, still stood strong. Fortress once very powerful and sophisticated was demolished by the British in 1806. A Famosa fortress or the locals pronounce it ‘Kota A Famosa’ are very favorite place for tourist and photographers.
The gates says “ANNO 1670″ and its Dutch word not Portuguese. Why? this was because Dutch successfully kick out Portuguese from Melaka in 1670. Now Dutch & Portugal kick between em’ self in EURO or World Cup.
Nothing much left to the A famosa inside Out. Outside you can find an old Cannon from 16th century. All have been destroyed by the British Colonies. Thanks to Stamford Raffles the last small gates was spared because of his passion for historical remains.

i’m really interested to know what do the drawings on the arc mean? ( not the ANNO but the soldiers-like figures)
there’s a lot of assumptions why the british destroyed the fort..one of them i heard it is because the british wanted to erase the greatness of the portuguese empire generally or the the greatness of the fort in particular..it is believe the during the time, the fortaleza of malacca (a famosa) was greater and more sophisticated than the tower of london. this made the english envied the portuguese as the superpower at that time while the english was still struggling. during the destruction, british empire was the superpower.
may be it served the barbaric religious extremist portuguese right, the walls were built from the ruins of malacca ( some said from the very stones of the palace, mosques and graveyards)
the barbaric destruction can be used to defend ourselves if any western hypocrites try to accuse us of destroying historical heritages..
