Inside the Melaka A Famosa Fotress

What inside it? Lets walk in:

Its nothing! Actually A Famosa Fortress is only a Gate and a single gate with no other building attached to it. 500 years ago it was a fortress build by Portuguese conquerer. In the historical days it was a fortress with 4 main gate. Now just one gate remain. Once upon a time, the fortress covered almost all of the Banda hilir area with city, houses, church and office in it.

Cruise Along Melaka River

Melaka River flows across Melaka Town and end at Banda Hilir. At the river mouth (Banda Hilir) there is a small Jetty,Harbour Master’s jetty(Jeti Shahbandar) for Ferry from Melaka to Dumai (Indonesia). Naturally, Melaka river has a muddy river bed. As a result, the river produce strong mud smell with its grey mud color. Wastage from commercial area along the river also contribute to the river problem.

Melaka River Water Mill

Water Mill in Melaka River? Yup Melaka will have its own water mill in the heart of Banda Hilir near Quay Side Restaurant and accross it (the river) are the OCBC Bank. This watermill will be powered by the Melaka River and it is said to be name the ‘Melaka Sultanate Water Mill.’ Although the function is not for agriculture irrigation system or crushing a flour, it will soon to be a tourist attraction.

As Chief Operation Officer at Kumpulan Melaka Berhad, a State Own Company Mr. Ismail Lajen Said, the water mill is 90percent complete. The construction for the Melaka water mill started September last year. The 13 meter water mill cost about RM1.5 million. At present, final work on installing the water mill bucket, platform and bricks floor are actively carried out. The water mill bucket will scoop Melaka river water and the water will be poured into a man made pond and goes back to the river again.

8th International Convention of Melaka Twin Cities 2008

Pesta Gendang Nusantara or the Archipelago Drum Festival is brought to you by the Melaka Historic City Council with clear intentions:

To display the uniqueness and the charmness of the Malay Archipelago cultural traditions that is closely related ans assimilated eventhough separated by the Straits of Melaka and South China Sea.

Based on ‘One Beat – One Melody’, ‘One Cultural Uniformity , Pesta Gendang pronounce the drum as the element for the beat, the melody and the dance, to relay the awareness to the people, especially the younger generations to show at first – hand how the beat of the drums being manipulated to enhance the beauty of the dance, the sound of music and the spirit of the Malay traditions.
