A Haunted Cool Cendol…

Hot days in January…when its 2.00pm you will start to feel the heat. It will burns right through your tongue. Then you drive on the busy traffic with blazing sun and hitting the dust. Suddenly not far away you can see an auntie is grinding a large ice cube. That’s it… a famous local cuisine / desserts. A Cendol.

Culture Corner Every Weekend

Congkak Demo At The Clock Tower.

Every weekend Tourism Promotion Unit under Briged Seni will have a cultural activities at several favorites tourist spot. It will be at Stadhuys Complex along the Victoria Fountain. Last Sunday & Saturday, Briged Seni was having a congkak demo there. Congkak is one of the famous malay traditional games especially for ladies and children at the past. Congkak is played using a wooden board (now we have a plastic board) and it consist of 2 players. To play the game, the player will use cowrie shells, saga seeds, small pebble or tamarind seeds. Nowadays people prefer to use colorful marble. The aim of this game is who can gather as many shell/pebbles at their house. House is no not A ‘House’ but a compartment in the congkak Board representing the player house.

Al-Khawarizmi Planetarium

Fancy of astronomical journey? Care to know if there are inhabitants around Milky Way Galaxy? Come visit Kg Balik Batu, Tanjung Bidara and you can study the hidden world of outer space. The planetarium is name after a famous and legendary Muslim mathematician, astronomer and geographer – Abu Abdullah Mohammad Ibn Musa al-Khawarizmi.

This 2.5 million project started in 2002 for first phase and second phase in 2006. Al-Khawarizmi planetarium are equipped with multi function digital and 3D infrastructure, first of its kind in Malaysia. With minimal fees RM1.00 to RM2.00 you can benefit the planetarium activities such as planetarium show in 3D and Night Sky Observation. Observation object such as Moon, Venus, Saturn and constellations are available. Hilal Observation for Islamic date and calendar is also part of the Al-Khawarizmi Planetarium function.

Taming Sari Tower

New landmark is on the way at Banda Hilir. Taming Sari tower a 110 meter observation tower is nearing its completion. The tower location is at historical point at bandar hilir just 3 minutes walk from Mahkota Parade Shopping Complex and Dataran Pahlawan Megamall. When completed, the tower will be another milestone in Melaka efforts to further promote the state as a formidable tourist attraction.

Using a Swiss technology, the project is managed by Kumpulan Melaka Berhad and it is cost at RM24 million. Why Taming Sari? Because the top portion of the tower is resembling the hilt of a keris and Taming Sari is a keris said to be a weapon of a Melaka Legendary Warrior Hang Tuah 700 years ago.

Bukit Sebukor Man Made Waterfall

Well naturally Melaka does not have a big waterfall in the rain forest. But there is one waterfall in the city. Located at leboh Ayer Keroh infront of the Bukit Sebukor traffic light, you can see the 5 storey tall Man-Made Waterfall. About half a kilometre from MBMB (Melaka City Hall) building and Jaya Jusco.

It’s Raining With Butterfly – Butterfly Farm and Reptile Sanctuary Ayer Keroh

There is an old saying “Where there is a Flower, There is a Butterfly”. In Melaka you don’t have to find many flowers to attract the butterfly in order to see them. Here we have a place called Butterfly Farm and Reptile Sanctuary located at Ayer Keroh. With a small fees you can witness over 200 butterfly species including Rajah Brooke Birdwing which is rare nowadays. This Rajah Brooke Birdwing is a butterfly from the rainforest of Borneo. You can recognized it by the distintinctive black and elcectric-green birdwing.
